Lobbyists for McCain is a new kind of organization for a new era.  For the first time in U.S. history, lobbyists have come together — not just for our clients, and not just for the Presidential candidate we trust — but for ourselves.  We lobby for lobbyists; one could say we are the lobbyist lobby. After all, lobbyists need lobbyists, too.

This unprecedented step was not taken lightly, but rather out of necessity, and only in the face of misguided attacks from the liberal media and the so-called progressive blogosphere.  Some of these attacks are accurate:  Yes, John McCain has over 120 lobbyists on his campaign.  Yes, his senior counsel, his national finance chairman, his top fundraiser, and his top advisor are all lobbyists.  Yes, some of us have lobbied for Exxon-Mobil, Ahmed Chalabi, Chinese Oil companies, Third World dictators, even the Saudi Monarchy, and yes, sometimes we’ve even pursued these efforts in direct opposition to U.S. foreign policy.  Yes, all this is true.  But, to focus on all that would be to miss the point.

We’ve closed ranks behind John McCain precisely because he understands that what is good for our clients is good for America. In the last eight years we’ve shown what can be accomplished when we have unfettered access to policymakers.  In these uncertain times of “change,” John McCain offers us confidence, access, and continuity.  Our work has only just begun.

Lobbyist, Client and Candidate have come together with one voice. 

K Street has made its choice; it is time for America to make hers.
