Lobbyists for McCain worked the back-rooms at this year’s Republican National Convention, making sure that the McCain campaign, in spite of all its talk of “change,” remained firmly in the hands of DC insiders. We were also out on the streets, defending the smooth functioning of corporate-managed democracy from the impoverished whiners and 1st Amendment extremists who’d gathered to sow chaos on the fair streets of St. Paul.
We made it to the floor of the convention where we rallied the faithful:
The Minnesota Independent ran into a few of our members here:
Later, the Utne Reader found L4M member Johnny S’boy on the convention floor:
John S’boy also made an appearance on the Daily Show:
CQ Politics caught up with us at one of our many pro-Business events: “Five men in pinstriped suits and black fedoras holding a sign that said “Lobbyists for McCain,” their voices dripping with sarcasm, sang “Give War a Chance” to the tune of “Give Peace a Chance.”
The Minneapolis Star Tribune saw the Lobbyist delegation out in the streets early as we combated the early protests of the convention - we represented corporate-Americans in high-style: “Among the biggest hits at the protest was a group of five Blues Brothers-looking guys complete with shades, black wool suits, pork-pie hats and Trump-collection ties.”
Scanner embedded with Lobbyists for McCain during the first day of the convention as we fought the good fight: “the Democrats– the scary, scary ones who have megaphones and think if you scream chants, interesting or not, you will somehow change minds– got wind of what the Lobbyists For McCain were up to.”
SABC News found L4M during the scandalous anti-war protest on the first day of the convention: “As the protesters marched around the convention site, a group of Republican presidential candidate John McCain supporters waved signs saying, ‘Let our soldiers win,’ and ‘Lobbyists for McCain.’”
Republican National Convention (and Lobbyists for McCain annual caucus)
September 1-4
Fellow lobbyists, do not despair.Though many Republicans are staying home this year, and party leaders are calling it a “funeral” and a “waste of time,” the Republican National Convention is a must for every Lobbyist for McCain.
Yes, there’ve been fundraising shortfalls.Yes, only 3 of the 12 GOP Senators running for re-election have said they’ll attend.Yes, there was even some doubt whether our standard bearer, George W. Bush, would be given a place at the podium.
But none of this matters compared to that larger-than-self feeling of mixing it up with the rank-and-file for a brief populist minute — and the parties, the networking, the back-hallway handshakes – these are just too good for business, to ignore.
If you’re still on the fence, look at the schedule they have planned.
Be inspired. We are — our hearts filled with something like hope, but different. And so we’ll be showing up in St. Paul in force, arm-in-arm with our close colleagues, Billionaires for Bush, the Exxon-McCain Campaign, The Very Old Boys Network, Reformed Reformers for McCain, People Who Were Against Flip-Flopping Before They Were for It for McCain, and People Who Married Money and Own Eight Homes and Wear $500 Loafers but Somehow it’s the Other Guy Who’s the Elitist Heh Heh for McCain.
We hope you will join us.
We still have a few extra black fedoras if you forgot yours.
